This event used to exist as a private tradition parents did together. However, ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ reveal parties recently turned into a precursor party to the baby shower. These parties are typically more casual than baby showers and open to both sexes.
Mandy Morgan-Smith hoped to celebrate the 17-week mark of pregnancy with a memorable ɢᴇɴᴅᴇʀ reveal, but ended up getting more than she’d bargained for. The all-important grand reveal held on Saturday, May 7, ended in “just five seconds” flat after the smoke ʙᴏᴍʙs engulfed the garden in a theatrical fashion.
Family members were left “struggling to breathe”, as the “stinking” pink smoke forced them to flee back indoors. It certainly made for an unforgettable sight, despite not being exactly the sort of thing Mandy had in mind.
Footage taken at the event shows Mandy, 22, and three-year-old daughter Willow-Rae Morgan-Smith, three, setting off two smoke ʙᴏᴍʙs, with the pink smoke heralding the arrival of a baby girl. However, cheers and applause from assembled family members quickly turned to cries of panic, as the smoke billowed all around, drastically cutting their visibility.
The chaotic footage was taken by grandma-to-be Tammy Smith, who could be heard yelling “I can’t breathe” as she instructs son McCalley Morgan-Smith, 25, to bring one-year-old Ellie Morgan-Smith down from the trampoline.
She had no idea that the £9 canisters would create such enormous plumes of smoke. It filled up our garden, the neighbour’s garden, then right to the third floor of their house. It only lasted about five seconds then we had to get out of the way quickly. It’s a weird, strong smell, it’s not nice at all. Because there’s a lot of smoke, it’s probably not good to inhale that much. Luckily nobody was really struggling.
“The smoke ʙᴏᴍʙs threw out a lot more smoke than I thought, it just really sʜᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ us all. It was definitely more eventful. It’s such a great memory and it’s great to make everyone laugh. I can’t wait to show my future daughter that she was causing a riot before she was born.”
Fortunately, the family was able to proceed with their celebrations after the smoke cleared away, and the hilariously dramatic video has since clocked up more than 130,000 likes on TikTok.
