Emma Millar and Daniel Millar, a couple from Mount Warrigal, NSW Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀ, knew their baby was going to be big, but they didn’t expect it to be so big. Remi, a “mini sumo wrestler” Gɪʀʟ, was born at Wollongong Hospital on October 7, weighing almost 13lbs (5.88kg) at 38 weeks and two days, twice the average weight of a new baby born.
27-year-old Emma Millar had to undergo an emergency c-section to deliver the baby.
Speaking of Remi, Emma said, “She’s like a mini sumo wrestler. I was expecting a bigger baby because I have gestational diabetes but not this big. At 35 weeks, the ultrasound said she was already around 4kg but we didn’t think she would grow any further.”
The couple’s other children, two-year-old Willow and four-year-old son, Ace, are also larger than normal children, weighing 12.1 lbs (5.5kg) and 8.4 lbs (3.8kg) respectively. ).
Emma had an emergency caesarian surgery on Ace, and decided to have it done as it was the safest option for her and the babies. Speaking of a natural birth, Emma said, “I don’t think I can handle a natural birth with her.”
Remi was part of just 1.2 per cent of Aᴜsᴛʀᴀʟɪᴀn babies weighing more than 9.9 lbs (4.5kg), with dad Daniel explaining that parents and midwives were sʜᴏᴄᴋed at the daughter’s weight small. He said that Remi makes an impression everywhere.
He said: “When I take her on a stroll, there’s usually a swarm surrounding her – midwives, other new parents, and visitors – who inquire about her size because she’s bigger than all the other infants.”
Emma, who is recovering from an emergency cesarean section due to Pʀᴇᴍᴀᴛᴜʀᴇ rupture of the water, says she “can’t handle” a natural birth with Remi. The mother-of-three was also told she was unable to lift anything heavier than her 13lb daughter during her recovery.
The family is currently having a hard time choosing clothes for her, especially since all the clothes they bought for her don’t fit her.
