Can Music In The Womb Make Your Baby Smarter

That humans might hear and learn sounds in ᴜᴛᴇʀᴏ isn’t as Fᴀɴᴛᴀsᴛɪᴄᴀʟ as it seems. After all, the growing fetus is constantly immersed in audio, from the continuous thump of the mother’s heartbeat to the rasp of her expanding and ᴄᴏɴᴛʀᴀᴄᴛɪɴɢ ʟᴜɴɢs.

After about 17 weeks of pregnancy, your baby will begin to hear sounds outside the womb; as mom begins to feel the first Fʟᴜᴛᴛᴇʀs of movement.

By 26 weeks, the baby’s heartbeat will respond to sounds (including music) outside the womb. At 33 weeks gestation, babies may breathe in time to music, indicating an awareness of the beat. And by 38 weeks, a baby in the womb reacts differently to various types of music.

Can you make your baby smarter?

There’s been some discussion of whether playing your baby classical music in the womb can make them more intelligent.  Classical music may not necessarily make your baby smarter; but there have been Sᴛᴜᴅɪᴇs that show that it has a calming effect; which can promote healthy sleep patterns once baby is born?

Do you want baby to love all your favourite tunes?

It appears that babies can recognise sounds they heard frequently in the womb. This shows how your baby may have a sense of familiarity with favourite songs you play while pregnant; and some mothers have said that certain pieces of music that calm baby in the womb, also work when laying them down for naptime after they’re born.

Sᴛᴜᴅɪᴇs have ᴅᴇᴍᴏɴsᴛʀᴀᴛᴇᴅ by 25 weeks gestation, unborn babies ʙʟɪɴᴋ ɪɴ ʀᴇsᴘᴏɴsᴇ to sound. To begin with, your baby will hear only low pitched sounds: For example, your stomach gurgling and the sound of your breathing. Then between about 29-33 weeks gestation, your baby will hear sounds outside of your womb, like the sound of your voice.

The sense of hearing is the one sense which helps prepare your baby for life outside the womb. As the baby’s mum, your voice is the first voice your baby will recognise when they are born. Sᴛᴜᴅɪᴇs have shown a mum’s voice has a calming effect on baby, as it is familiar.
