A dramatic head-on crash sent a mother and her baby to hospital after a car allegedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road during a police pursuit.
CCTV footage shows a white Commodore veering into oncoming traffic in Guildford on the outskirts of Perth and colliding with a Mazda CX3 and Mitsubishi Outlander before smashing head-on into a Hyundai Tucson.
A 22-year-old female driver and her 30-year-old male passenger were being pursued by police and were charged with a list of offences after the crash on November 28.
The drivers and passengers of the Mazda and Mitsubishi were uninjured but the 35-year-old female Hyundai driver and her eight week old baby were taken to hospital for observation.
Police said the 22-year-old driver of the Holden Commodore and the 30-year-old passenger suffered several broken bones and were taken to Royal Perth Hospital where they will undergo surgery on their injuries.
Investigators said two bags of methylamphetamine were found in the white Holden.
The arrest comes after an investigation into two Perth home invasions between September and November allegedly committed by the 30-year-old man including a machete attack on a woman in the suburb of Butler.
“A 30-year-old female resident of the home sighted the accused entering the property allegedly in possession of a machete,” police said.
“As she attempted to run away the accused allegedly grabbed her and a struggle ensued in which the accused hit the victim several times to the back of the head with the machete, causing a laceration and bleeding to the back of her head along with a defensive wound to her thumb.”
The 30-year-old man has been charged with six offences including aggravated home burglary and unlawful wounding.
The 22-year-old woman has been charged with eight offences including reckless driving to escape police and breach of bail.
