Pain In Pubic Bone: Causes And Solutions

FACTS MOMS NEED TO KNOW:

  1. About 1/300 pregnant women will suffer pain related to the pelvic area, pubic bone, back, hip, etc.
  2. Symptoms of pubic bone pain usually appear around the middle 3 months and the last 3 months of pregnancy.
  3. This pain is not dangerous to the mother and the fetus, but if this situation lasts for a long time, the pregnant will have difficulties in moving and living.

WHAT ARE CAUSES OF PUBIC BONE PAIN DURING PREGNANCY?

During pregnancy, the pelvic area will stretch as much as possible to facilitate the development of the fetus and meet the needs of childbirth. Therefore, the endurance of the pelvis will be weak and vulnerable. Two sides of the pelvis are connected by the joint of the pubic bone at the front, which can stretch under the support of the ligament system. When the pelvis relaxes and stretches the ligament, it causes pain in the pubic area.

WHAT INCREASES THE RISK OF PUBIC BONE PAIN DURING PREGNANCY?

  • pregnant moms gain too much weight during pregnancy
  • multiple pregnancies or very large fetus
  • high body mass index (BMI)
  • during pregnancy, overworking, sitting or lying in an incorrect position or old injuries such as a pelvic fracture
  • the position of the fetus in the womb

HOW TO REDUCE PAIN IN THE PUBIC AREA?

Moms should follow these tips:

  • walk, stand, sit properly, keep the back straight
  • when sitting, leave a soft cushion or pillow right after the back
  • use a support belt for the belly to support the pelvis in order to reduce the weight on the pubic joint
  • choose the type of shoes which are low, comfortable to wear
  • avoid standing on one leg or maintaining one posture too long
  • when sleeping, lie on their left side and keep their legs and hips slightly bent (and use a small pillow to support the hip when lying down)
  • have easy and gentle exercise practices every day
  • supplement calcium by eating foods such as beans, milk, eggs, greens during daily meals

Please note that moms must never use medicine to relieve pain without consulting a doctor for the best advice.
