The four children mentioned above survived the plane crash on May 1, which killed pilot Hernando Murcia Morales, Yarupari indigenous leader Herman Mendoza Hernández and their mother Magdalena Mucutuy Valencia.
The Colombian military launched a large-scale search operation after four children disappeared in the deep forest. The operation involved more than 100 soldiers of the Colombian special forces and over 70 indigenous scouts participating in the search of the area.
For weeks, the search yielded startling clues as footprints, a dirty diaper and a bottle of milk. Family members say the oldest child has had some experience in the forest, but hope fades as the children remain missing.
Initial hopes surfaced in mid-May when Petro mistakenly tweeted that four children had been found, which he later had to correct.

The four surviving children are extraordinary as they are very young, the oldest is 13 years old and the youngest is 11 months old.
The children were found by Colombian army soldiers near the Colombian border, near where the plane crashed. When found, 4 children were dehydrated, had insect bites on their bodies and showed signs of malnutrition. The Colombian army sent helicopters to the scene to take the children for health checks and treatment.
The bodies of three adults were found, including the pilot, the mother and a relative of the children at the crash site.
Preliminary reports show that adults sitting in the front of the plane were seriously injured in the collision. “Fatal injury occurred to people in the front row: occupants in position 1 (pilot), 2 (men) and 3 (women).
However, the rear seats, where the children sit, are less affected by the impact. This is also a detailed explanation for the survival of the children.
The children mentioned above, indigenous to Uitoto, have been wandering in the forest since May 1 after the Cessna 206 plane carrying them crashed.
