Miracle Baby Survives When Her Mum Gave Birth At 23 Weeks After Waters ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ Just Six Months Into Pregnancy
When the first time you know that, you was pregnant, you always hope and pry for your baby healthy and enought time to be born. So this mom Lauren Coates was told that if she had her first born baby within a week of her waters ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴅᴏᴡɴ at 23 weeks then there would only be a 30 per cent chance that she would sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ. A mum who gave birth more than three months ᴇᴀʀʟʏ sᴘᴇɴᴛ sᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴀɢᴏɴɪsɪɴɢ days waiting to see if her baby would sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ.
Lauren Coates was 23 weeks pregnant when she was told her waters were ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴅᴏᴡɴ. The issues was caused by ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ ᴘʀᴇᴠɪᴀ, ᴀ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴄᴀᴜsᴇs ᴀ ᴘʀᴇɢɴᴀɴᴛ ᴡᴏᴍᴀɴ’s ᴘʟᴀᴄᴇɴᴛᴀ ᴛᴏ ʟɪᴇ ᴠᴇʀʏ ʟᴏᴡ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs, Chronicle Live reported.
Lauren’s pregnancy ordeal began when she was 16 weeks and she sᴜꜰꜰᴇʀᴇᴅ ᴀ ᴋɪᴅɴᴇʏ ɪɴꜰᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ.
“They ᴛʀᴇᴀᴛᴇᴅ ɪᴛ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴀɴᴛɪʙɪᴏᴛɪᴄs and decided it wouldn’t go away, but that I could live with it while I was pregnant,” she said.
The Seaham, County Durham woman then spent an ᴇxᴄʀᴜᴄɪᴀᴛɪɴɢ seven days waiting to see if the baby was going to arrive.
“It was just ʜᴏʀʀᴇɴᴅᴏᴜs, I was counting down the clock. When 12pm hit every night I knew it was an extra day.”she said
At 20 weeks doctors discovered “low lying” placenta previa, which began to develop and led to her waters ʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴅᴏᴡɴ at 23 weeks. On the moment she realised she was going into labour, Lauren said: “It was just worry and distress, not knowing what was going to happen.
On the seventh day, Lauren sat down to eat a takeaway with Simon, but was in so much pain she couldn’t eat. After that she went to Hospital where Alora was born just four hours later on February 8, weighing 1lb 2oz. At birth, she was given a 50 per cent chance of sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴀʟ. Specialist doctors took almost eight hours to fit her with a breathing tube because she was so tiny. But seven weeks on, Alora has doubled in weight and is thriving.
Lauren and Simon have now launched an online fundraising care for the Sunderland NICU, to thank them for their lifesaving care.
They are also currently in the process of updating the unit and want to make the rooms for the babies less clinical and more baby friendly by decorating it and creating themed rooms. The fundraising page has already raised around £2,500 in a week since being launched, leaving the couple ᴏᴠᴇʀᴡʜᴇʟᴍᴇᴅ
