According to ANI on February 9th, Zahad, a transgender man, and his partner Ziya Paval, a transgender woman, have both undergone gender-affirming hormone therapy while Zahad was pregnant.

Zahad gave birth at a public hospital in the state of Kerala, India. Currently, Zahad and the newborn are being monitored in the special care unit.

Expressing his emotions, Zahad said, “I am truly happy. Today is the day I get to hold my baby.” According to Zahad, the baby knows how to breastfeed and is completely healthy, both physically and mentally.

Meanwhile, Ziya Paval regularly updates images of the couple embracing their roles as parents on social media.

Zahad (23 years old) and Ziya Paval (21 years old) are the first transgender couple in India to become parents.

The birth of their child is a significant milestone for the LGBTQ+ community in India, as the transgender community faces discrimination and prejudice. Awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community in India are still limited.

Transgender individuals often encounter difficulties in accessing education, healthcare, and employment. Many are forced to leave their families due to societal prejudice and stigma.

Prior to Zahad’s case, there have been recorded instances of transgender individuals giving birth worldwide.

For example, Thomas Beatie, in Phoenix, Arizona, was the first transgender man globally to conceive and give birth in 2008.

In meaningful good news, a transgender man in India has announced that he is pregnant with his first child. This is a huge step forward for both the transgender community and Indian society, creating acceptance and accompanying transgender individuals in their lives and on their path to parenthood.

The man, who used to be a woman, decided to go through the transition some time ago and has perfected the gender change to become a man. He decided to keep his reproductive organs so he could experience a life of fatherhood.

This incident is becoming a positive signal for both the LGBTQ+ community and transgender people in India. It reflects a growing acceptance of people going through the transition and the right to be empowered to choose families and become parents.

However, transgenderism has not always been so well received and recognized. There are many challenges and prejudices that transgender communities face, especially in culturally conservative societies. However, the man’s pregnancy has sparked widespread interest and sparked conversation about choice, while also spurring a shift in mindsets and social perceptions.

The man’s medical condition was also closely monitored and he was fully supported during his pregnancy. This demonstrates the advancement in the medical field and the acumen of medical professionals in meeting the diverse needs of the community.

The event also raised questions about transgender people’s right to access to training programs, employment and reproductive autonomy. It contributes to promoting debate and improving policy related to the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

The pregnancy of a transgender man in India marked a significant step forward in recognizing and respecting transgender people’s right to self-determination in raising a family. We hope that stories like these will grow in popularity and will fuel social change and equity for the LGBTQ+ community.
