5-Year-Old’s Shoe Tying Tutorial Is Unique But It Works

In January 2017, Ashley Lillard posted a video of her five-year-old son Colton tying his shoelaces in a very unique way.

Colton, the eldest of three children, was just five years old when his mother Ashely Lillard posted a video of him giving a tutorial on how he ties his shoelaces.

Every parent will come to a point where they have to teach their young children one of the most important lifeskills: tying their shoelaces. Common ways to tie them include the bunny ears and the circle methods. But Colton is here to show us a new way you can get the job done in under a minute.

As his mom patiently films her shoe tying ninja in the kitchen, Colton informs the audience that he “has a new way to tie shoes”.

In the tutorial, you would be able to hear mom dealing with the chaos of everyday life in the background, including the family dog who tries to get in on the action, as well as Colton’s dad to which Ashley says, “Hopefully he will be quiet for our video,” a familiar warning to fathers everywhere that they better keep quiet when something important is going down.

Colton beams with pride as he completes the successful shoe tying. He shared that he had actually learned this special method from his friend, River.

Besides the well-tied shoelaces, Colton’s mom has more than one thing to be proud of Colton for in this video: her son gives credit where credit is due. The video was filmed more than three years ago now, but we like to think that Colton still uses this trick to tie his shoes, and that he has passed this lesson along to the many viewers who has seen his video.

Have you ever seen this method of tying shoelaces? Does your child have a unique way to tie them? Let us know in the comments and be sure to pass this along to your friends and family.
